Could God create a rock big enough that He couldn’t lift it?
Cute. So if God can create a rock and He cannot lift it, then He is not all-powerful. But if God cannot create a rock so heavy that He couldn’t lift it, then He isn’t all-powerful, either. While it is an interesting question in itself, below the surface there is another question: “Is there anything that God can’t do?”
Actually, yes, there are things that God can’t do. He can’t lie, He can’t deny Himself, and He can’t sin, for starters. The reason He cannot do these things is because of His nature—it is impossible for God to act against God. It’s also impossible for Him to create a two-sided triangle, or a married bachelor…or a rock big enough that He couldn’t lift it.
