Should I be tolerant of others’ religious beliefs?
The world really sees tolerance in different ways. A traditional view of tolerance would explain that we should respect those who believe in different views than ours. Today, tolerance to most people means that every philosophy, idea, and faith system has equal merit and is worthy of equal respect. As Christians, we are called to proclaim the unpopular truth that Jesus is the only way to God, and this completely contradicts all other religions. We should respect people with different beliefs, but this does not mean that we accept what they believe as true. 1 Peter 3:15 gives good advice for this: “Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.”
