Why is the Bible divided into chapters and verses?

Actually, to start out, when the books of the Bible were originally written, they did not have chapter or verse references. They were written like stories or letters. The chapter and verse numbers were added to help us find Scriptures more quickly and easily. In the 13th Century chapter divisions were put into common Bibles. In the 15th-16th Century verse numbers were added. Ever since then most common Bibles have included chapter and verse numbers.
